Preserving the Past

Once there was a little cottage by the sea and in that place, an artist wrote and illustrated wonderful books for children.

Many years passed and the land was sold but the little cottage was saved, packed away in pieces until, not too far away, in the heart of Lanesville (in Gloucester)  people who also love children and books decided to build it back up. They also wanted to celebrate all the artists and writers in their village.

It has been donated to the Lanesville Community Center.

Interview with the editor of VLB's " Little House"

The rebuilding process of the Virginia Lee Burton (VLB) writing cottage has started with the much-needed help of volunteers, a Community Preservation Act (CPA) grant from the City of Gloucester, private donations and corporate donations from Dore and Whittier of Newburyport, MA, DMS Machine and Fabrication of Barre, VT, Carpenter &  MacNeille , and the Gloucester Building Center.
